Shropshire Council has said repair work to a town centre street that was slammed by a county MP is just a temporary fix by broadband contractors.

On Tuesday, Helen Morgan, the Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, wrote to the authority to say the work in Cross Street in Oswestry town centre was "haphazard".

The repair work has involved the use of asphalt to fill in holes left by removed paving stones, creating what the MP says is "an eyesore" on one of Oswestry’s busiest streets.

In response, Shropshire Council has said the repair work is a temporary fix by broadband contractors and that national legislation allowed them up to six months to fix the street properly.
