Money for Oswestry from house building levy revealed

Oswestry is to get a cash boost of £24,668 from Shropshire Council's Community Infrastructure Levy fund.

The money comes from the developers and is based on a set amount per square metre of homes they build in the area.

A proportion of the funding is kept for county wide infrastructure and strategic initiatives with some then given to the town on parish in which the development falls.

The local portion is either 25 per cent if the area has a local plan or 15 per cent if it doesn't.

The latest payouts range from a few hundred pounds to more than £200,000 for Shifnal and almost £300,000 for Shrewsbury Town Councils.

Councils can use the funding for projects for the local community or improvements to the local infrastructure.

Oswestry Town Council's development and planning committee will discuss the CIL funding at it's meeting on Monday (26) at 7pm.
