The Marches School is collating the experiences of not only its students but the wider, Oswestry community to form a memoir of life over the past year.

Students are also working with Oswestry Town Museum to create a lasting exhibition.

The pupils are asking people of all ages and from all walks of life to submit extracts from their diaries, poems, pictures and photographs of their lives during 2020 and into this year.

Already on the Lockdown Diaries internet page lockdown-diaries.co.uk are poems, pictures and images of everything from staycations to crafting as well as evocative diary entries from pupils about being one of a handful of keyworker children in a school that usually holds 1,500.

Deputy head Darryn Robinson said 2020 marked a key point in history.

"For the first time in living memory everything stopped, and families were told to stay in their homes. Normal routines of attending school, meeting people, visiting shops, hugging friends and family couldn’t happen.

"Even out of lockdown shops, restaurants, care homes, places of worship – all have had to alter the way they operate."

He said places of education were no different.

"The Marches School has adapted to adhere to the new normal and now seeks to connect with and encourage everyone to join with them in creatively reflecting on what Covid 19 has meant to the community of Oswestry and how we can record this for future generations to look back on. The pandemic will form part of history and students will no doubt study what the world is living through now in years to come.

"While they have plenty of content from school the focus is now to spread the word and gather 'Diary entries' from the community."
