Cyclists get hot under the collar in ride for hospice
A lawyer who gave a whole new meaning to "cycling to the office" when he launched a new charity event last year has sent out a plea for more donations after completing the 65-mile trip for a second time during last month's heatwave.
Robert Williams, a Partner with GHP Legal, came up with the idea of raising money for charity by cycling between his firm’s offices in Wrexham, Oswestry, Chirk and Llangollen, finishing with a climb over the Horseshoe Pass.
Whilst last year’s 'Tour de GHP’ event took place in October in torrential rain and hail, Robert and his cycling companions, Paul Ffoulkes of Barclays Bank and Medwyn Edwards of Hadlow Edwards, this year endured unusually high temperatures which made their climb over the Horseshoe Pass particularly difficult.
The challenge was to raise money for Nightingale House Hospice.
After raising more than £1,500 last year for British Heart Foundation we are a little disappointed that we currently only have £390 pledged for our efforts this year.
“Over the next 12 months it will cost around £8,600 per day to run Nightingale House which provides a wide range of facilities to people including those in Shrophisre and their families living with life-limiting illness.
“I am part of a team that is undertaking a ten-day challenge in Vietnam and Cambodia to raise more money for them in November, cycling up to 250 miles between Ho Chi Minh City and Angkhor Wat Temple."
