Having a pantomime dame in your workshop is not an everyday occurrence.

But when you are making scenery for your local Christmas theatre production, anything can happen.

Sam Evans stepped in to answer a plea for help from the Oswestry Musical Theatre Company, for someone to make the scenery for its production of Beauty and the Beast.

And this week Sue Box, who will play the dame, called in to see how work was progressing.

She said the company was incredibly grateful to Mr Evans for giving up his time to help out.

The talented joiner said: "The scenery 'flats' are needed for the Christmas panto but will be adaptable for future productions as well.

"I have the basic timber and plywood but I am still looking for offcuts of softwood so that I can add interesting architectural features like doors and windows, drainpipes and so forth.

He said the wood had to be unused and could be quite small pieces.

"It is simply to give the scenery a more 3d effect."

"If you have any unwanted clean timber lying around and would like to donate it, please ring me on 01691 654136."

Beauty and the Beast will take to the stage at the Marches School in Oswestry on December 15,16 and 17.
