A 10k fundraising race is returning in 2018 following the huge success of the first event of its kind in a town earlier this year.

Sir John Talbot’s School and headline sponsors Grocontinental are joining forces once again to hold the event in Whitchurch.

Next year's race will take place on April 8 around the town.

This year's event raised more than £5,000 for charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support.

In April more than 550 runners participated in the inaugural road race starting and finishing at the school and taking competitors on a route around the town, showcasing shops, parks and local amenities.

Organisers are now hoping the event will welcome more than 600 entries in 2018 and raise further funds for its chosen charity partner.

Headteacher David O’Toole said: “The warm reception and level of support for Whitchurch’s first 10k run was astounding from our sponsors, runners, volunteers and the wider community.

"We are delighted to be underway with preparations to cement the Whitchurch 10k in the race calendar for 2018 and welcome wider support in making this happen.

“We have recently received news that the event has been nominated for two national Running Awards, a true tribute to the local area and race organisers. I do hope you will join us in 2018 and I look forward to seeing you on race day.”
