Fire crews were busy around the county on Saturday evening as three blazes started in the hot, dry weather.

At about 4pm firefighters from Whitchurch were called to assist Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to put out a heavy goods vehicle which had set alight on Tarporley Road, to the north of Whitchurch.

The blaze was put out by about 4.40pm.

Slightly earlier, at about 3.40pm, a crew from Much Wenlock put out a hedgerow fire at Cressage using one water jet, and at 6pm a crew from Wellington put out a small patch of undergrowth that had caught on fire at Brickhill Lane, Telford, using a knapsack.
