Flooding hits rail line
Trains from Shrewsbury to the Welsh coast were affected today when flooding affected the track.
A main road in and out of Aberystwyth was also closed when heavy rain in Wales led to severe flooding.
Trains between Newtown and Aberystwyth were halted when the line was closed by Arriva Train Wales concerned about the height of the river at the Black Bridge at Glyntwymyn.
Replacement road transport services took passengers between Machynlleth and Newtown via Caersws. Trains were still running between Newtown and Shrewsbury.
Passengers were advised to check for latest updates before travelling: www.journeycheck.com/arrivatrainswales/.
The A44 between the Glanyrafon Industrial Estate and Lovesgrove Roundabout Aberystwyth was closed in both directions after the river River Twymyn burst its banks.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the flooding had left difficult driving conditions urging motorists to avoid the area.
River levels peaked around 9.30am.
Flooding also affected the A4120, the playing fields and Pavilions at Llanbadarn, and caravan sites at Aberystwyth Holiday Village and Grosvener Farm.
In 2014 floods and high seas around the Aberystwyth coastline closed part of the Cambrian railway route for several months.
