The incident took place in Claverley, with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service sending one crew from Bridgnorth at around 2.50am.

They said that breathing apparatus and a hosereel jet had been used to tackle the fire.

In a post on its Facebook page at around 3.30am Bridgnorth Fire Station said: "Crews are currently out dealing with a confirmed car fire in rural Claverley.

"Vehicle appears to have been dumped and deliberately set alight down a public bridleway.

"Crews are using an extended hosereel jet (120meters) and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire."

The crew had finished at the scene at around 3.30am, saying the car had been "fully destroyed" in the incident.
