Plea to find Bridgnorth Carnival dragon a new home

An 8ft dragon which has previously led the Bridgnorth Carnival procession is looking for a new home.

Pam Lockley says it was originally made for Bridgnorth Carnival in the 1990s by a woman who ran a craft shop in St Mary's Street.

The 60-year-old lawyer agreed to temporarily house the dragon in her garage after responding to an SOS appeal in the Bridgnorth Journal.

In 2013, Bridgnorth Carnival was held for the first time in almost two decades and the dragon was used to lead the procession.

It has since been put up in the town for St George's Day events.

But Mrs Lockley says she is moving to London from her home in Southwell Riverside, Bridgnorth, and has a buyer who wants to complete the sale in the first week of July.

She said: "They can not take the dragon. I have no room in my new home.

"I took it into my garage because they needed somewhere to put it at the time, but then they cancelled the carnival.

"When they announced there would be another carnival a few years ago it led the procession.

"If I can't find a home for the carnival dragon I will have to break him up and it is heartbreaking after all our time together."

This year's Bridgnorth Carnival will be held on Saturday.

The procession starts at 1.30pm from Nock Deighton Livestock and Auction Centre and winds through town to Severn Park.

There will be live performances on Severn Park from noon, as well as a funfair, attractions and stalls.
