The Rotary Club of Bridgnorth is holding its Up the Steps Walk on October 8 and is encouraging people to sign up.

The fifth event of its kind will start at Bridgnorth Town Hall at 2pm.

The walk, which is held annually to raise funds for the rotary club and good causes, is up the steps and down the streets between Low Town and High Town.

This year the route has been changed and organisers have added the flight of steps onto Waterloo Terrace.

It follows advice that previously the walk was 793 steps.

The keen counter of steps will now find more than 800 steps.

The walk lasts between one and two hours.

Walkers can collect sponsor money for their preferred charity, club or good cause.

High Town is situated on a hill and sets of steps from Low Town to High Town await those who sign up for the challenge.

Elwyn Jones, secretary of the Rotary Club of Bridgnorth, said: "The route is interesting as there is a constantly changing view as you move through the historic parts of Bridgnorth – of course there are a lot of steps, actually over 800, all to be climbed which provides the challenge for this sponsored event.

"So its down the streets and up the steps on October 8."

Anyone who wants to take part can register by emailing fej1284@btinternet.com or ring 01746 766245.

People are asked to provide their name and address.

The entry fee is £10 which can be paid at the start of the walk.

Last year's event raised more than £4,000 for good causes.

About 50 walkers – and almost as many dogs – took on the challenge.
