A fortnight of history in Bridgnorth
Bridgnorth is turning back the clock for a fortnight in a special 10th birthday event in the town.
Bridgnorth History Fortnight runs from Monday, September 4, to September 15, and is a celebration by the town's library of 10 years of annual history events, and also the tenth anniversary of the formation of the local and family history volunteers.
Emma Spenser, branch manager of the town's library and visitor information centre, said: "The Local History Centre was created in 2007, as part of the Discover Shropshire project in partnership with Shropshire Libraries and Shropshire Archives, to bring together a number of local and family history resources to libraries across Shropshire.
"Every year for the last 10 years we have held a history week, which highlights the work and resources of our Local History Centre and showcases local speakers, demonstrators and guides, all within a history theme.
"The 2017 programme is no exception, so much so that it has been extended to a fortnight to celebrate our special anniversary. It contains a diverse range of talks and activities to interest and inspire people and bring history to life."
Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “With the huge demand the public has in family and local history, having the help of volunteers and resources readily accessible in the library is ideal for those with an interest in the history of Bridgnorth and the surrounding area. We are extremely lucky to have such rich heritage on our doorstep.”
