Fire crews tackle 30 tonnes of blazing straw near Bridgnorth

Four fire crews tackled a blaze involving four acres of stubble and 30 tonnes of baled straw near Bridgnorth.

Firefighters were sent to the scene in Aldenham Park, Morville, at 6.50pm on Monday.

Fire officer Ashley Brown said the crew returned this morning to ensure no hot spots remained.

He said: "We attended the incident with our major appliance and four-wheel drive vehicle along with Much Wenlock.

"On arrival we found the baler fully involved in fire along with approximately four acres of stubble and approximately 30 tonnes of bailed straw in the field.

"We requested a further two appliances from Telford Central and Wellington to attend to assist with personnel and water.

"We left at 10pm, but returned this morning to ensure no hot spots remained.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."

Four fire appliances including the incident support unit and the water carrier were sent from Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, Telford Central and Wellington.

The crews used beaters, a fogging system and hose reel jets to tackle the fire.
