Shropshire baby death lessons not learned say tragic couple
A couple whose daughter was stillborn at Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital claim she could have survived if their concerns had been listened to.

Devan Cadwallader was admitted to PRH on December 3 last year for induction.
Devan and her husband Gavin, from Shrewsbury, said the baby was healthy and well at that time, but in the days that followed they raised concerns her movement had slowed down.
The couple say they were assured everything was normal. However when Devan was sent to have her waters broken, she was told baby Quinn had no heartbeat. The couple believe their baby daughter’s stillbirth on December 7 last year was preventable and described what happened as “devastating”.
A statement released by the couple said: “We now know that earlier in the year, significant concerns had already been raised over the instances of baby deaths at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), but it seems that the necessary lessons still haven’t been learned from this.

“We know the midwives and medical staff try to do a great job in difficult circumstances but we feel we have to tell our story in the hope it might help improvements be made so that such a tragedy doesn’t happen again.”
A spokesman for SaTH said: “The sad death of Mr and Mrs Cadwallader’s baby girl has been fully investigated by the trust.
“We recognise there are questions that the family have raised that we have not been able to answer and because of this we have written to them to ask if they would allow us to refer this case to an independent expert for further review.”
