Mr Henry, 70, best known for his portrayal of the hapless handyman, Benny in the 70s soap, Crossroads, chose Whitchurch Community Hospital as his chosen charity in the celebrity edition of the popular television programme.

In the show, aired on Saturday, the actor teamed up with Shaun Williamson, who played Barry in Eastenders in a special 'soaps' edition.

The two won through to the final and each chose a charity that would receive the £1,000 if they won.

The Crossroads star told presenter, Alexander Armstrong : "I live in a small market town in Shropshire called Whitchurch. There is a small hospital there, the Whitchurch community hospital. It is a marvellous place and I would like to give my money to it if I am lucky enough to win."

Choosing Sherlock Holmes as their theme for the final the pair scored a six for naming Una Stubbs as one of the characters in the current drama, Sherlock, and got a wrong answer when asked to chose the name of a film.

But they won the jackpot when Shaun successfully named boxer, Joe Egan, as a member of the cast of the Sherlock Holmes films starring Basil Rathbone.
