Shropshire Star

Let us entertain you with our best show line-up yet

This year’s Shropshire County Show will soon be upon us - it's on Saturday, May 27, in case it’s not already in your diary - and I am delighted to say entries are looking very strong.

We have received more than 200 horse entries, which is fantastic considering we had to reduce the number of classes last year, so we are looking forward to an excellent horse show.

Cattle and sheep entries are also looking very good, despite the uncertainty in the industry, with entries still flooding in despite the closing date having passed.

We are absolutely delighted to once again have the full support of the majority of main agricultural dealers in the trading area of the show, which we will be celebrating this year with a special memorial trophy commissioned by the family of John Suckley of Hopton Farm, Hopton, in his memory.

In terms of entertainment, we think this year’s show is going to be the best yet with a huge array of activities and stalls on offer.

We are particularly proud of how much free entertainment will be taking place around the showground, from the likes of street entertainers and face-painting in the Kids Zone to motorcycle displays and tractor pulling.

Talking of tractor pulling, the show has been chosen as the first round of the British Tractor Pulling Championships, so we’ll be in for some spectacular sights and sounds from that corner of the showground!

We will also have a walking, roaring dinosaur prowling around the show. Pete the T-rex featured on a recent Tesco advert and is sure to be popular with children and adults alike.

Then there’s the Taste of the Shires food area, live music stage, the Young Farmers’ float procession… the list of attractions just goes on!

As many of you will know, the show is organised almost entirely by volunteers and all proceeds go to the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society charity, which works tremendously hard to support farmers and rural communities.

I very much hope the farming community does us proud once again and comes out in large numbers to support our show.

I look forward to seeing you there on Saturday May 27! For more information and advance tickets, visit www.westmidshowground.com
