Reporting on the November 14 market at Market Drayton, Barbers' auctioneer Bernie Hutchinson said: "Nearly 100 more forward selling on another brisk trade especially for the tested cattle and well-fleshed types.

"Top slots returned at 140p for steers, 140p for heifers and 137.5p for bulls."

Bulls: A larger number forward selling on a firm trade throughout. Trade peaked at 138.5p for a Limousin bull weighing 468kg to gross £643.50 from Mr Ian Mainwaring, Oteley and further bulls to 122p, 121.5p and 116.5p.

In the mediums, Mr Woolley, Great Bolas, deserves a mention for his Limousins to 124p and 122p.

Heavies reached 126p for a Limousin weighing 580kg to return £730.80 from Mr Rob Belfield, Upper Hulme, and a further bull to 118p. In the same section Messrs Vance and Son, Minsterley, had a Limousin to 125p, Mr Ian Dutton of Styche with a British Blue to 119p and Mr P. Darlington of Crewe with a Charolais to 119p.

Black & Whites peaked at 106p for a bull weighing 575kg to gross £608.44 from Messrs Noden, Sandon.

Other native breeds to note were Herefords to 110p for Mr Ian Dutton and Aberdeen Angus to 109.5p from Messrs Noden, Ightfield. The overall average returned at 105p, the same as last week.
