Good trade at market
There were 585 finished cattle at Ludlow market. An increased entry and a very good trade was recorded again.

There were plenty of buyers in attendance with the heifers selling to 141.5 pence, the steers 137.0 pence and the bulls 129.5 pence. Best cattle were easiest sold. Prices were as follows:

Cull Cows & OTMS Cattle - 114
A firm level of demand right the way through with a very large percentage of plain cows in this week's entry which
obviously affected the overall average. Genuine barren cows sold up to 105.0 pence. Best cows were easiest sold. Prices were as follows: Grade 1 cows to 102.0p average 89.92p, Grade 2 cows to 79.5p average 73.50p, Grade 3 cows to 73.0p average 64.31p, Grade 4 cows to 82.0p average 45.74p, steers to 98.5p average 91.00p, heifers to 107.5p average 87.40p, old bulls to 64.5p average 58.11p. Overall average 67.4p.
Finished Sheep - 4,666
A lamb trade which would be well in line with that reported elsewhere and the prices reported on Friday of last week. Best lambs again were easiest sold. There was now a marked difference between an ordinary sort of lamb and the better bred beasts. The
better bred lambs are certainly those which are easiest to sell. Prices were as follows: Light lambs to 107.0p average 105.5p; Standard lambs to 149.0p average 112.7p; Medium lambs to 148.5p average 114.0p; Heavy lambs to 112.0p average 110.0p.
Export quality lambs sold up to 149.0p average 123.7p and home trade lambs to 114.0p average 110.4p.
The killing ewes on offer were a firm level of demand again with best ewes up to £56.20 and an overall average of £34.50 for all sorts. Killing rams to £55.00 average £34.01.
