Prime lambs trade well

Messrs Morris Marshall & Poole and Norman Lloyd & Co report the following sales at the auction on Monday July 2.

OTMS: An entry of 43 OTMs on offer with an overall average of 68.55ppkg.

The top price of the day was for a charolais cow weighing 790kg and achieving 94ppkg. A Simmental cow weighing 550kg and a limousin cow weighing 680kg both achieving 88ppkg. Cows averaged 67.4ppkg, steers averaged 93.02ppkg and bulls averaged 93.03ppkg.

FAT CATTLE: An entry of 26 fat cattle on offer. Top price of the day was received by J C Davies & Son Gelli Gethin who presented 2 fat steers and received 132ppkg and 126ppkg which where bought by John Langford and G R Evans & Co respectively. T & GA Owen & Son Frochas Farm presented 2 fat heifers and received 128ppkg for both animals which where bought by J F Longman. Steers averaged 114ppkg and heifers averaged 116.4ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS: A very good entry of 4,805 prime lambs on offer, with a very similar trade seen. The overall average was 123.8ppkg. Super Lights to 110ppkg from W Beamond Cwmcarnedd Uchaf. Average 109ppkg.

Lights to 119ppkg from T G Brown Little Cefn, others to 117ppkg from D W C Evans Lower Brynkin. Average 110.5ppkg.

Standards to 137ppkg from R G K Hodnett Willey House, others to 136ppkg from R Richards & Co. Average 125.6ppkg.

Mediums to 138ppkg from EJ & AJ Roberts Longlands, others 135ppkg from E L Andrew Trewern Cottage. Average 125.4ppkg.

Heavys to 126ppkg from DES & ER Bickerton Lloran Uchaf, others 123ppkg from F W Davies Rhospennau. Average 120ppkg.

Overweights to 117ppkg from NG & GG Davies Trawsgelli, others to 115ppkg from DES & ER Bickerton Lloarn Uchaf. Average 110.5ppkg.

CULL EWES: Another excellent entry of 2301 cull ewes on offer with the top price of £57.50 being received for 5 ewes presented by T G Davies Home Farm. L Brymer Griffiths & Co Bryneira presented a ram and achieved the top price of the day of £48.50. Ewes averaged £27.94 and rams averaged £36.35.
