The 2007 West Mid Show will be one of the best events staged in Britain this year, the chairman pledged today.

David Tudor said the agricultural event featured one of the most exciting line-ups of entertainment of any show around.

Speaking ahead of the county crowd puller, which will take place in Shrewsbury on June 23 and 24, he said 2007 was set to be a fantastic year for the historic event.

He revealed parking charges have been scrapped this year because of long traffic jams for drivers entering the Berwick Road showground in 2006. Last year showgoers paid £2 to park at the site.

Mr Tudor said: "I can say that this programme is second to none with any show in the UK. With the Household Cavalry as the premier attraction closely followed by the Bolddog Lings Freestyle Team, there's so much going on in the main arena."

Mr Tudor said the showground was looking "superb" and paid tribute to staff who have helped get the grass in fine condition.

This year sees the highest entry of Hereford cattle in years with 31 exhibitors and 121 entries.

Hazel Timmis, a Hereford breeder from Baschurch and former president of the Hereford Cattle Society, said: "I think it's because Herefords are increasing in popularity because they are low maintenance and produce a good quality of meat."
