Peter Richards, a keen member of Shropshire Young Farmers, is this year's county chairman and is also celebrating his first year at Barbers, where he works alongside senior partner Mike Arthan in the development land department.
Peter who originally trained as a rural surveyor, diversified into a development land specialisation consulting on marketing of development opportunities and barn conversions.
Elected YFC county chairman in October, Peter is responsible for the Shropshire Federation which has 800 members in 22 clubs and a financial turnover of £50,000.
Just 40-50 per cent of the membership are active farmers, with most, like Peter, opting for related professions or education.
Peter said: "Having worked in the West Midlands for an urbanised house builder, it has been wonderful for me to return to Shropshire to work for a firm like Barbers. Their understanding of rural life and their goodwill has allowed me to dedicate time to the association."
A sponsored walk to the Royal Welsh Show from Shrewsbury in aid of the County Air Ambulance was planned, plus the chairman's ball at Crab Tree Farm, Prees Heath on Saturday August 25. Call 07974 433503 for tickets.
Young Farmers and Barbers both support the West Mid and Newport Shows and Barbers are also providing a new Stock Judging Cup. Young Farmers will also be at the Minsterley and Oswestry shows.
