The FBA Service closed on March 31, says Balfours' farm business adviser Trevor Sheard, pictured, who believes a farm business advisory service is still desperately needed, and that void can now be filled by Balfours where he heads up a full rural and farm advisory department.

Mr Sheard says: "Modulation has been increased to 17 per cent and is set to rise to 19 per cent by 2009 meaning a farmer receiving Single Farm Payment of £40,000 will have is cheque cut by more than £7,500 within two years.

"Shropshire farm businesses must continue to adjust if they are to survive, therefore the need for advice and direction is greater than ever.

"The great advantages of the service offered by Balfours is that we can provide specific advice and follow through with regular development meetings, working long term to see plans through to implementation and indeed profit."

He says that through Balfours' clients receive a service tailored to individual farm business needs, with the back up of Balfours disciplines in commercial property, surveying and succession planning.

"We offer a free initial fact-finding visit where we can identify resources, problems and future aspirations."

With over 21 years practical experience in farming and ten years in business advice Trevor is well placed to help farmers adjust their businesses to meet the challenges which lie ahead.
