Brisk trade at stock sale
The first sale of weanlings at Welshpool Smithfield for many years created a great deal of interest at the auction site earlier this month.
With a packed ring of purchasers and onlookers, an entry of just over 50 cattle met with a brisk trade.
It resulted in a total clearance and some potential purchasers going home empty handed.
Best prices achieved included: EW & EG Griffiths of Gilfach, Carno with a pair of Limousin steers, £505 per head; RAC Williams & Son of Glyndwr, Llanfair Caereinion, with an eight-month Limousin steer at £490.
RAC Williams & Son, Glyndwr, Llanfair Caereinion with a pair of Limousin heifers at £405 per head.
RG & BM Harding of Delfryn, Carno, with Charolais heifers at £385 p er head.
A spokesman for the market said that the success of this sale meant that there would now be a catalogued sale of weanling cattle monthly with the next sale on March 12.
