Primestock show success
An extremely successful pre-Christmas Primestock Show at Bridgnorth saw an improved trade, with plenty of buyers for show cattle and with commercial cattle also seeing an upturn in values.
An extremely successful pre-Christmas Primestock Show at Bridgnorth saw an improved trade, with plenty of buyers for show cattle and with commercial cattle also seeing an upturn in values.
An overall average of 117.8p/kg resulted all in. There were 85 show cattle forward.
Peter Coates of Alrewas judged four classes for lambs, with 199 entries forward. The general quality this year was nothing short of exceptional, especially in single lambs. The George King Cup for Champion Pen of five Lambs was awarded to MW and RA Davies for the second year running, for 49kg Beltex lambs, realising 190p/kg (£93). Phil Davies was also awarded reserve champion pen (for the first prize, under 39kg) realising 190p/kg.
The Brian Meredith Cup for Best Single Lamb was awarded to WJ Jones & Co for a 48kg Texel realising 220p/kg.
The general trade on all show lambs was better than expected, with a large number realising 140-180p/kg.
