A top price of 132ppkg was achieved at Welshpool livestock auctions in the prime cattle section for a heavy weight limousin heifer presented by DR Owen & Sons, Sandilands Farm, Tywyn which was bought by John Langford of Welshpool.

Two heavyweight heifers from JC Davies & Son, Gelli Gethin, Llanfair Caereinion sold for 129p and 121ppkg purchased by Mr Bryan Evans of Corwen Butchers and John Langford. Two heifers from G Jones & Son, Yr Ogof, Llanfyllin sold for 126p and 121ppkg. Heavy heifers averaged 114.85ppkg.
Medium heifers sold to 122ppkg from J Parry, Esgairweddon, Pennal with others selling for 117ppkg from G Jones & Son, Yr Ogog and two limousin heifers from T & GA Owen & Son, Frochas Farm sold for 115p and 112ppkg. Medium heifers averaged 111.14ppkg.
Messrs CJ Davies & Son, Waengwyn, Cefn Coch presented two limousin heavy weight steers which sold for 126p and 124ppkg. J Parry, Esgairweddon, Pennal sold for 124ppkg. Heavy steers averaged 109.71ppkg.
An easier trade in the 'Over 30 months/cull cows' was achieved with a top price of 79ppkg for a blonde d'aquataine cow weighing 740kgs totalling £584.60. A charolais cow sold for 73ppkg (750kgs - £547.50).
Limousin cows sold to 67ppkg with others selling for 66p, 65p and averaging 56.57ppkg.
Belgian blues sold to 55ppkg with Herefords selling to 56ppkg.
A good entry of freisian cows forward with a top price of 65ppkg averaging 49.8ppkg.
Heifers sold to 86ppkg and bulls to 70ppkg.

An easier trade was experienced in the cull ewes and rams with ewes selling to a top price of £55 per head presented by Mrs ES Evans, Rowanberry, Westbury. Other ewes sold for £48 per head from JF Morgan, Tyncoed, Llandinam.
