Cash offer made in bid to halt Shropshire wind turbines
A row over wind turbines near Bridgnorth has taken a bizarre turn – with campaigner William Cash offering to give a town amateur theatrical company £5,000 if the plans are dropped.
Mr Cash, a member of the Stop Bridgnorth Wind Farm Group, said he would donate the money to the Bridgnorth Musical Theatre Company if the turbine application for Meadowley, in Morville, was formally withdrawn, with a promise of non re-introduction, before September 1.
Mr Cash, son of Conservative Party MP Bill Cash, lives at Upton Cressett Hall, which is near the wind turbine site.
The plans for two, 240 foot high structures, have been put forward by Sharenergy, a not-for-profit organisation.
The site is owned by Clive Millington – whose wife Suzanne has been a member of the Bridgnorth Musical Theatre Company.
But the amateur company today distanced itself from the row.
Howard Marsh, its chairman, said it would not accept any financial offers.
He said: "To our patrons and supporters please be assured the company is completely impartial in the local dispute concerning the planning application for wind turbines.
"Our membership consists of people who love musical theatre and whose main aim is to bring pleasure to as many people as possible by way of its annual productions."
And another member of the society, who asked not to be named, said: "Mrs Millington has not performed with the musical theatre company since 2007."
Mr Cash said he respected the theatre company's decision. Mr Millington was unavailable for comment today.
