Arsonists were today being blamed for a blaze which ripped through a community centre in Newport, causing tens of thousands pounds' worth of damage.
Police believe the culprits crept into St Nicholas Church Parish Rooms, in New Street, Newport, at about 2.30am yesterday and set light to papers in the building.

The hall, which is used by more than 20 community groups, was partially gutted during the blaze which took five hours to bring under control.
Both the kitchen and committee room were destroyed and the roof was left badly damaged.
Denise Wakefield, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "Extensive damage was caused to the building, including the roof space.
"Many items were completely destroyed, although exactly what was damaged has not yet been established.
"It appears that access had been gained to the rear of the premises and a fire had been started in a small storage room. Police are treating the incident as arson and we would appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to the fire to come forward."
Shaun Baker, incident commander for Shropshire Fire and Rescue, added: "From the investigations I have carried out I believe it to be of suspicious origin."
Anyone with any information can contact the police on 101.
