Wynne Construction Ltd has been awarded the contract by Powys County Council to build the new 150-place primary school for Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng.

The company will be required to provide substantial opportunities for local contractors as well as deliver additional community benefits during the scheme’s construction.

Meet the Buyer events will be arranged shortly so that local contractors and suppliers have the opportunity to meet Wynne Construction as part of the scheme.

Work on the development, which is being funded by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme and is 50 per cent funded by the council, is due to start next month .

The council's Cabinet agreed to increase the council’s allocation for the project by £1.35m to meet the additional costs for the project.

The old Grade II listed building, Ysgol Maesydre will be refurbished to accommodate early years and community facilities and a new extension will be built to include a new school hall and classroom bases. The building will also be the first Passivhaus hybrid project in the UK.
