Shrewsbury teenage prodigy lands scholarship at top school
A teenage maths and music prodigy has been awarded a scholarship to one of the country's most prestigious schools after picking up two A*s at A-Level – at the age of just 13.
Protik Moulik, from Roman Road in Shrewsbury, has been awarded a place at Westminster School, whose former pupils include Nick Clegg, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Helena Bonham Carter.
The talented pianist, violinist and singer, who attended Prestfelde School, passed A-Level maths and music this summer, as well as picking up an A* in GCSE Latin.
He managed to pass one maths paper with a perfect score of 100 per cent and also achieved the same feat in his music performance paper.
Protik has been given one of just eight Queen's Scholarships that are handed out each year at Westminster School and started there as a boarder earlier this month.
His admittance to the school is the latest in the line of incredible achievements for the Shrewsbury teenager, who was invited to join Mensa at the age of 11 and was named as the National Woodard Musician of the Year in 2012.
Protik's proud mother Soma said her family was thrilled with his achievements.
"We are very proud. It is all down to Protik. He is very, very motivated and it is all self-driven – that is the biggest thing," she said. "Even for A-Level music and Maths, he has done it all himself."
Mrs Moulik said despite his musical abilities, Protik is aiming for a career in the field of mathematics.
