Johnston was jailed at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Shrewsbury Crown Court heard that Nicholas Johnston, 40, of no fixed abode, was discovered in a home on Wrekin Road at around 5am on June 20 last year.

The burglar, who has 27 previous convictions for 65 offences, was found by the home owner, who had heard a noise.

When confronted in the kitchen, Johnston approached the man and was pushed backwards with both hands.

Johnston then asked the man: "You are not going to fight me are you?"

The homeowner replied by saying "no", and said he would let the burglar out.

As he went to open the front door Johnston ran and jumped out of a separate window.
