Brendan Jamieson, 42, took two fragrances worth £45 from TK Maxx at The Forge Retail Park in Telford on March 31 this year.

It came just a few months after he tried to take two bottles of Southern Comfort worth £36 from B&M at the same retail park on December 4, 2018.

Sara Beddow, prosecuting, told Telford Magistrates Court: “He has had various offences against him over the years including thefts.”

Jamieson, of Withywood Drive, Telford, pleaded guilty to theft, attempted theft and breaching a community order.

His defence agent told the court that Jamieson had struggled with crack cocaine addiction in the past, and that family traumas caused him to relapse.

Magistrates gave him a 12-week community order, a curfew from 6pm to 6am for 10 weeks and ordered him to pay £135 court costs and a victim surcharge of £85.
