Hilal Ali, of Mint Indian Takeaway in Trench, Telford, today appeared in court on behalf of the business, which is charged with eight counts relating to hygiene conditions at the Indian restaurant.

He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges the business faced, which included six alleged failures to comply with EU provisions.

These were:

  • Having cigarette stubs and ash above open bags of flour

  • Letting a cat walk around and use a litter tray in the kitchen

  • Having a dirty ceiling and floor covering

  • Not cleaning fridges

  • Having no hot running water in the staff bathroom

  • Failing to maintain a permanent hazard analysis procedure

These were all alleged breaches of the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.

In addition to the food hygiene allegations, the company is also accused of failing to enforce a no-smoking rule.

Ali chose for the case to be tried by a jury, and the case will next be heard at Shrewsbury Crown Court on November 26.
