How heartless do you have to be?: Thieves steal Severn Hospice charity van

Thieves who stole a charity’s fundraising furniture store van have been branded ‘shameless, selfish and heartless’ by bosses.

Now Severn Hospice, which cares for families in Shropshire and Mid Wales living with an incurable illness, is appealing for the community’s help in getting its van returned.

Hospice head of retail Ross Henderson said: “I am speechless and so angry, frankly. Whoever’s taken this is completely selfish and without shame.

"Not only will we have the cost of replacing the van, we will also be missing out on valuable donations of stock we can’t now collect and put in the store to sell and raise funds for our work.

“How heartless do you have to be to steal a charity’s van? They will have known it was ours as they broke into our yard to take it.

"They clearly knew what they were doing as they were on site for less than five minutes and disabled the tracker not long after they drove off.

“We are a community charity and if the people who took this van live anywhere in our patch then they will probably know someone who’s needed our help.

"I honestly don’t know how they could do something like this; to steal from a charity is a special kind of disgraceful. They are stealing from their neighbours in effect.

“I’m hoping the thieves will see this and do the right thing by returning the van to us. Someone will know who’s done this and they too should search their conscience.”

The white Ford Transit medium wheelbase van, registration DS60 AOM, was taken around 8pm on Saturday night from the furniture store off Ennerdale Road in Harlescott, Shrewsbury. CCTV shows three figures breaking into the van.

Police are using the yard’s footage, plus images from other cameras to assist their enquiries.
