Man charged over New Year's Day stabbing in Telford

A Telford man has been charged with wounding with intent after a stabbing in the town on New Year's Day.

Sigitas Aukstulis, of Highlander Drive, has been charged following a stabbing in Barclay Court, on January 1, where a 51-year-old man was taken to hospital with a serious injury to his hand.

Laura Maltby, of West Mercia Police, said: "The 50-year-old has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent.

"He has been bailed to appear at Telford Magistrates Court on March 14."

A number of police cars were in the area of Barclay Court, in Trench, from around 3pm on January 1.

Nearby Wellington Road, which connects Trench with Donnington, was fully shut while police were in the area. Neither pedestrians nor motorists were allowed through.
