Police warning over cars ‘abandoned’ on Market Drayton swimming pool car park
At least half a dozen unauthorised cars remain in one of Market Drayton's public car parks, it has emerged.
The vehicles, which are thought to have been left there for some time, have been taking up valuable spaces in Market Drayton's swimming pool car park.
It has sparked warnings from police and councillors in the town that the owner, or owners, face hefty costs unless they are removed immediately.
Already 11 cars, believed to belong to the same person, have been seized from the car park recently.
Roger Hughes, Shropshire councillor for Market Drayton, said: "Two have been there that long that the tarmac is green underneath them.
"It seems like they are uninsured or have no MOT.
"My message to those that own them is to remove them straight away or they will be moved for you. They face hefty costs if they have to be removed by police."
It comes just weeks after motorists claimed they are being forced to abandon their cars on grass verges and pavements because of a lack of parking at the car park.
"A few spaces have been taken up by contractors working on the new skate park, but the main cause of the problems at the car park is the 17 cars that have been left there.
"I want to thank the police for the speed and efficiency of removing 11 of the cars," Councillor Hughes added.
