Cyclists warned about security with bike thefts

Cyclists are being urged to check their security after an increase in pedal thefts.

Police have issued a warning after the spike in cycle thefts over the last few months.

According to officers at West Mercia Police, more than half of the bikes are stolen from the owner's property.

Anyone with a bike should record a full description of the bike to include make, model, serial number, marks features and accessories and take photos of it.

Owners should also check to make sure their bike is covered by house contents insurance or for more expensive bikes specific insurance will be needed.

Bikes should be kept out of view and secured to an immoveable object with a good quality lock of chain that meets sold secure standard.
