Dale Byrne, 36, of Faulkland Crescent, Wolverhampton, altered his earlier not guilty pleas at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday and confessed to stealing £300 from Adastra Services, in Market Drayton, on December 13.

Prosecutor Mike Phillips said the defendant had been captured on CCTV walking into the garage and through the staff room door before making off with the cash and two bottles of Jack Daniels worth £43.98.

Byrne, appearing via video link from Birmingham while in custody, admitted returning a day later and after getting into a disagreement with the shop owner shattering the shop window.

Up to £500 of damage was caused to the Shropshire service station during the incident.

The defendant's case was committed to Shrewsbury Crown Court on July 19 where he will be sentenced.
