Two arrested for attempted murder in Newport stabbing

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in his home in Newport.

The victim, who is 20, was attacked in his flat at Hallcroft Gardens, at about 12.30am yesterday.

He underwent emergency surgery in hospital for his injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

Two 19-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A third 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and a 16-year-old youth has been arrested for burglary.

All four were still in custody today.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "We heard screaming so I went to look out of the window. Just a few moments later the police and an ambulance arrived."
