Work on £1m caravan park by Shropshire firm gets under way
A new £1 million touring caravan park is to be built in the shadow of Snowdonia by a Shropshire firm.
Shrewsbury-based Morris Leisure has already started work on the new five-star touring park at Llanberis.
The company, which already owns the Riverside Touring Park in Betws-y-Coed, hopes to complete work on the 54-pitch caravan park on eight acres of land at Glyn Rhonwy, Llanberis, by late summer.
The land, which is on the edge of Llanberis, was previously part of a slate mining operation and used for offices during the construction of Dinorwig Power Station.
The brownfield site will now be transformed to a park for touring caravans and motorhomes.
"Following our £4 million investment in Riverside Touring Park, we have been looking to expand our park portfolio in Snowdonia and detailed market research identified Llanberis as an ideal location," said managing director Edward Goddard.
Jobs
"The new park will create four jobs and we hope to complete the work in late summer by using local contractors and services wherever possible.
"Based on figures issued by the British Holiday and Home Parks Association, the touring park would generate in excess of £200,000 a year for the local economy, which has got to be positive for Llanberis."
He added: "As with our five existing parks, we are keen to work closely with the local community. We have had great support from Gwynedd Council and the local community throughout the planning process and look forward to continuing to work closely with them in the future."
As well as Riverside, the company owns Stanmore Hall Touring Park in Bridgnorth, Ludlow Touring Park in Ludlow, Oxon Hall Touring and Holiday Home Park in Shrewsbury and Bow House Country Park near Bishop's Castle.
Three of the parks are affiliated sites of The Caravan Club.
