The £17 million factory has been built at Muller Wiseman's dairy in Shrewsbury Road, Market Drayton – bringing with it 100 jobs.

The plant has been in operation since last month, but a formal opening ceremony featuring Environment Secretary and MP for North Shropshire Owen Paterson was taking place today.

The new jobs will be spread between the plant and the firm's yoghurt factory.

The site will use 90,000 tons of cream left over from yoghurt and chilled dessert production each year to create up to 45,000 tons of butter, making it the biggest such plant in the country.
