The Lancaster Road-based firm, which markets, sells and provides support for Cat-erpillar and diesel engines to military and naval customers outside North America, has invited staff into a voluntary redundancy programme.

The company employs 380 people, including agency staff, at its Shrewsbury base.

In a statement, Caterpillar said: "Caterpillar Shrewsbury Ltd recently proposed a voluntary severance programme for approximately 35 office based positions.

"As we have stated throughout the year and most recently in our third-quarter release, Caterpillar continues to take actions to reduce costs and bring production in line with demand."
