Forty jobs lost in factory closure
Forty jobs have been lost in a Mid Wales town after an electrical manufacturing group announced it was closing its factory.
Elkay Electricals, which is based on Newtown's Mochdre Industrial Estate, will close on December 31, with just two members of staff offered a trial at the company's other base in Birmingham.
The news has been branded as a "massive blow" to the area in the run-up to Christmas by staff, councillors and politicians.
One worker, who did not want to be named in case it affected his redundancy payment, said: "We have had our notices. It is heartbreaking to close us down in the middle of Christmas and new year."
The company declined the chance of Welsh Assembly support and instead released a statement through Edwina Hart, the assembly's economy minister.
