Telford firm The Chair People looking for seat at retail table
A chair manufacturer in Shropshire has made the six-figure move to a new home as it looks to crack the British retail market.
The Chair People has been running since 2004, working in the contract seating market from its existing base in Halesfield 16.
Now the company has made the switch to larger premises in Halesfield 13, doubling the company's previous capacity, as it looks to build its position in the retail market.
The move is also intended to provide an established base from which the company can look to develop another showroom elsewhere in the UK?in the coming months and years.
The approach to new markets will see the company establishing itself in some niche areas.
Since its launch in 2004, the firm has developed its position in the contract seating market, and has now branched out to expand its offer to build its wider domestic sales, and is planning to use its expansion to take on major retailers such as John Lewis.
The move comes as part of a £100,000 investment in the business which will also see a number of new staff being recruited.
Owner and director Karl Owen said: "We are absolutely delighted to be marking the launch of our new domestic offer with the unveiling of our brand new premises.
"This move forms part of a wider £100,000 investment in the business and which will see our workforce expand over the coming months to meet anticipated demand.
"As a business, we have chosen to remain located in Telford due to the town's commitment to industry and its enviable network links which will enable us to service the whole of the UK via our dedicated online facility."
The move to new premises gives the company a total of more than 7,000 sq ft of office and storage space.
Mr Owen added: "Our highly experienced team prides itself on offering clients the ultimate in quality and flexibility, with over 2,000 fabrics available for a range of chair styles from bar stools and tub chairs, to dining chairs and armchairs, and we are thrilled to now be able to offer this to members of the public.
"We are even looking to promote a number of ranges dedicated to niche markets such as parents, who are looking for chairs that are both stylish and elegant, yet durable and child-proof.
"We are really excited about the next stage of the journey for The Chair People.
"This will see us build on our already strong foundations and expand our business even further, with plans to open a dedicated showroom within the UK in the near future."
