Welshpool Impact, short for Welshpool Impact Rotaract has been launched in the town. The group is a rotary programme under the global Rotary International family, but does not have the financial capabilities of being a full rotary member.

Rotaract was originally founded in the United States in 1968 as a programme under the Rotary International umbrella, before it came to the UK and Ireland in the early 1970s.

The purpose is to provide an opportunity for residents to have fun with likeminded people, volunteer in the local community, learn new soft skills that will assist them in personal development, address the physical and social needs of their communities, and promote better relationships between people.

Mike Lade of Welshpool Impact said: "Members come from all backgrounds, ages, beliefs, religions and sexual orientation and we aim to reflect the community but we are a non-religious and non-political group.

"Fully diverse so anyone of good character is welcome to join us so do come along to our ‘information evening’ to find out more about Welshpool Impact and what it has to offer."

The new group is holding two information sessions as The Old Bakehouse in Welshpool between 6.30pm and 7pm on Wednesday, February 26 and Wednesday, March 12.

Residents can find out more about what the group is and what it hopes to achieve within the community and will be given a chance to ask questions.
