Bridgnorth Town Council issued the update, saying that the decision had been taken as a result of warnings over Storm Darragh.

The switch-on had been due to take place on Friday (December 6).

The council said the decision was a result of 'serious safety concerns' over 30 to 40mph winds predicted.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the region.

A statement from the town council said: "The lights will now be switched on at a suitable point during the weekend, when it is safe to do so."
