Organised by Rotary Clubs based in the area this year's project has so far attracted £40,719 in donations and is expected to make around £43,000.

The Tree of Light gives shoppers the opportunity to commemorate the names of their loved ones around a tree in the Telford Shopping Centre and other locations around the borough in exchange for a donation.

Organising committee chairman Max Clowes said: “Once again the people of Telford have shown their generosity this Christmas time by donating this enormous amount for local charities. Thank you everyone."

The entire amount donated by the public is distributed to the nominated charities.

Chairman of the Telford Tree of Light Trustees Paul Booth said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped make this year’s tree such a huge success. May you all have a peaceful and happy 2019.”
