Rotary runs free health checks

Rotary clubs from all over Shropshire are holding a series of events across the county to promote health awareness, in which people will be able to have free tests for things like blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Robyn Davies, of Wrekin Rotary Club - whose event is at the Asda superstore at Donnington Wood on April 27 - said: "It is blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, and general health awareness. We have the health team from Wrekin Council and medical professionals working with us.

"A lot of people now are very conscious of blood pressure and have their own monitor. Last year at one of the events I was at we had older people coming in and saying they were on tablets. We then took their blood pressure and it was sky high, or the opposite. They had continued to take the medication they were given two years previously and had never gone back for a recheck.

"It's an opportunity to have a check and is totally anonymous."

The Health Awareness Days are a tie-up between national Rotary and the Stroke Association. The event at Asda is from 9.30am to 3pm and no booking is needed.
