Fans travelling to Shrewsbury Town's FA Cup tie against Manchester United urged to allow extra time
Fans of Shrewsbury Town are being urged to allow extra time to get to the team's match against Manchester United.
Severn Trent is currently carrying out major works in the Roman Road area of the town to replace worn out water pipes in a £2 million scheme of works.
Pipes in the Oteley Road area, close to the Greenhous Meadow, have already been replaced and work along Roman Road began at the start of the month.
Gareth Mead, spokesman for Severn Trent, said: "Although our work outside Shrewsbury Town's football ground is finished, we are still working about half a mile away and we're talking regularly to the local police and the highways department to make sure our work in the wider area doesn't get in the way of the match on February 22.
"However, we'd advise fans to give themselves a little more time to get to and from the ground." The company said that more than two miles of piping will have been replaced over the coming months.
Mr Mead added: "To make sure the water pipes in Shrewsbury continue to serve the community for years to come, we need to replace two miles of pipes.
"Local residents will know that recently we've had a number of burst water pipes in the area and the work we're doing involves replacing the old ones to prevent this from happening in the future.
"We've now reached the halfway point of our project and we'd like to thank the local community for their patience."
The match which will take place on February 22 at 7.45pm with a full house of 9,875 expected.
