Shropshire pensioner died after falling onto gas fire, inquest told
A pensioner died after falling on to a gas fire at her home, causing her to suffer 25 per cent burns to her body, an inquest has heard.
The hearing on Elizabeth Gorman, 86, of Church Street, Church Stretton, was opened and adjourned.
Mrs Gorman had a history of seizures, the hearing at Shirehall, Shrewsbury, was told.
Coroner's officer Julie Hartridge said that because of this her daughter used to telephone her every day from her home in Cardiff.
"On the evening of January 4, her daughter rang and thought she sounded 'odd'," said Ms Hartridge.
"The next day she decided to visit her and found her on the floor in her living room having suffered from 25 per cent burns following a fall on to the gas fire."
Mrs Gorman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she was treated for the burns.
But her condition did not improve and she died of her injuries on January 19.
Fire investigators visited Mrs Gorman's home, where no evidence of suspicious circumstances was found.
Coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Mr John Ellery adjourned the inquest until April 7 to be heard at Shirehall in Shrewsbury.
