The outline plans for the homes in Dutton Close, Stoke Heath, have been approved by Shropshire Council.

A derelict single-storey flat roof building on the site will be demolished as part of the scheme.

Stoke-upon-Tern Parish Council was in favour of the development, but Shropshire Council received eight letters of objection from residents who raised concerns about access and an increase in traffic.

A report by Shropshire Council case officer Richard Denison said the council supported the site being used for a residential development.

It said that it would not have a major impact on residents, or cause harm to the character and appearance of the area.

"The proposal would not result in the loss of any significant trees, and has no adverse highway or ecological implications subject to conditions being imposed," it added.

The final layout of the site and details of the types of homes to be built will be revealed at a later stage.

In her objection, resident Tara Viggers said: "I would like to draw attention to the inadequacy of the access and roads on Dutton Close to accommodate even a small increase in traffic. The roads are just not wide enough.

"The proposal would demonstrably harm the amenities enjoyed by residents, in particular safe and available on-road parking, diminishing light, views and access into existing properties, privacy and the right to enjoy a quiet, safe residential environment."

Brian Colley said the road through the existing estate is "inadequate" and will be unable to cope with any increased traffic.

"The construction of the new build will also mean that construction and delivery vehicles will congest the existing estate making life difficult for the current residents of Dutton Close," he added.

Graham Bould, clerk of the parish council, said: "The parish council resolved to support the application subject to additional information being made available by the applicant about access to the site and an even mix of property types."

Documents submitted in support of the applicant said: "The proposal will make use of a brownfield site. The development will also make use of the existing children's play area which will be enhanced as part of the proposals."
